Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Research Policy Briefs

In a landmark ruling announced in June 2022, the FDA issued a marketing denial order of the JUUL device and 4 types of JUUL pods containing nicotine concentrations of 5% and 3%. The FDA is also continuing with a proposal to ban flavored tobacco products, and under a new Biden administration proposal - the nicotine content in cigarettes will be reduced. In response to these latest announcements and proposals, Nicotine and Cannabis Policy Center (NCPC) researchers have developed three briefs to help clearly explain the facts:

  1. TOBACCO FLAVOR BANS ARE CRITICAL FOR TOBACCO CONTROL
Deanna M. Halliday, MA, Yueqi Yan, PhD, Allison A. Temourian, MA and Anna V. Song, PhD
  2. FDA BAN ON JUUL DEVICES: A WIN FOR TOBACCO CONTROL
Allison A. Temourian, MA, Deanna M. Halliday, MA and Anna V. Song, PhD
  3. BIDEN ADMINISTRATION PROPOSAL: REDUCTION OF NICOTINE CONTENT IN CIGARETTES
Natalie R. Beylin, BS and Anna Song, PhD

As always these are free to download, and are designed to help provide digestible facts and information that can help guide conversations with community members. Spanish language versions will be provided shortly. NCPC is funded in part by a grant from the Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program (28PC-0044).
